Final Reflection
For this project I picked Technology in the classroom. The reason I picked this idea was to improve the classroom stress. I chose this to improve the behind the scenes like grading and assignments. In previous years I had always carried a laptop everywhere and there were a lot of teachers who didn’t like the use of electronics in their classroom. I have realized the importance that electronics including cellphones can bring to the classroom environment. The idea came from push back from those teachers who didn’t see past the distractions.
Some successes were Mr. Kearney, he brought a program that he had used in previous years at other school and it was a success there and has been a success here as well. This program is called GradeCam. GradeCam has taken the time it takes to grade assignments and has cut it in half. GradeCam give the student their grade on their assignment instantly as they scan their work.
At one point in this project I had to stop and make some major changes, one of which was a website with a list of grants and funding for technological items that can be used in the classroom. Items such as Microsoft Surfaces and new and updated computers. I also had to address the use of cellphones and how they can be used effectively for students with distractions.
One weakness in this project was a lack of ideas that worked effectively. Most of the ideas were already implemented into the classrooms. Some ideas were laptops in the classroom. Another idea was tablet that were eventually provided by the school district of TUSD.
The most important item in this project was the list of grants. I have gotten a lot of positive feedback on a list of funding items that teachers can use to buy these advances in technology. The teachers were very enthusiastic about having a website with a list of funding right at their fingertips.
If I had to choose a project to do next time it would be then I would have to pick an engineering project to discuss. My advice to the incoming seniors would be to never give up, never stop keep going. The more work you put into something the better results you will get out of it.
